Make Your Child’s First Dental Visit in Plainfield a Great Experience

If you’re ready to schedule your child’s first dental visit in Plainfield, come see the family-friendly professionals at Rod Eccles, DDS. With the help of our caring team, Dr. Eccles has been serving his hometown of Plainfield and surrounding areas near west Indianapolis for over three decades. To ensure your child has a positive association with the dentist, we’ll do everything we can to make the first visit a happy one.

We will:

  • Give your child a tour before their actual appointment, if you’d like
  • Allow you to be in our treatment room with your child
  • Entertain young children with toys and older kids with cool toothbrushes and our high-tech equipment
  • Work at your child’s pace and not rush any treatments like dental cleanings

We recommend age 3 for your child’s first appointment. Call us at 317-682-0884 to schedule. If you have any concerns before that, visit us for patient-centered family dentistry.

You & Your Kids Will Love Our Family-Friendly Atmosphere

With your help, we will do everything we can to put your child at ease. Sometimes all our youngest patients need is a little support and familiarity. That’s why we invite children to come take a fun tour of our office with a sibling before the first actual appointment.

You can also come in the treatment room with your child when it comes time for their first dental cleaning and exam. A little reassurance and warm touch can go a long way in helping your child relax.

We have several other ways to make your child’s overall experience memorable and, above all else, fun! For example, we’ll keep your oldest children engaged with cool toothbrushes and the state-of-the-art gadgets in our office.

You and your children will appreciate these benefits:

  • Our waiting room is stocked with kids’ books and a treasure tower with toys.
  • Once every quarter, we do a drawing for stuffed animals.
  • When your children go back to see Dr. Eccles, they can play with water toys. Who knew that sitting in the dentist chair could be so fun?

Common Questions About Your Child’s First Dental Visit

How old should a child be for their first dental visit?

We think it’s best to begin regular dental visits when your child is about 3. At that age, we can usually introduce gentle dental cleanings and begin to educate them about the importance of good oral hygiene. We’ll enter them in our quarterly drawings for stuffed animals!

How can you prepare your child for their first dental visit?

One of the best ways to prepare your child for their first dental visit is to bring them along for your appointments or the appointments of their siblings. To help familiarize them with our office, we’re happy to show them around, focusing on child-friendly areas like the “treasure tower” in our waiting room.

What can I expect at my child’s first dental visit?

We’ll examine your child’s teeth and also gently clean them. You are welcome to stay with your child in the treatment room so both of you are comfortable with the process. Our team will take the time needed to reassure your child and also to address any questions you have about their dental development.

Are pacifiers bad for teeth?

They can be. They can affect the alignment of your child’s teeth and may even cause changes in the roof of the mouth. Dental problems related to pacifier use are more common in children older than age 2, those who vigorously suck their pacifier, and those who use one all of the time. If you’re concerned about your child’s pacifier use, let us know. We can offer suggestions to help wean them off a pacifier.
