How old should a child be for their first dental visit?

We think it’s best to begin regular dental visits when your child is about 3. At that age, we can usually introduce gentle dental cleanings and begin to educate them about the importance of good oral hygiene. We’ll enter them in our quarterly drawings for stuffed animals!

How can you prepare your child for their first dental visit?

One of the best ways to prepare your child for their first dental visit is to bring them along for your appointments or the appointments of their siblings. To help familiarize them with our office, we’re happy to show them around, focusing on child-friendly areas like the “treasure tower” in our waiting room.

What can I expect at my child’s first dental visit?

We’ll examine your child’s teeth and also gently clean them. You are welcome to stay with your child in the treatment room so both of you are comfortable with the process. Our team will take the time needed to reassure your child and also to address any questions you have about their dental development.

Are pacifiers bad for teeth?

They can be. They can affect the alignment of your child’s teeth and may even cause changes in the roof of the mouth. Dental problems related to pacifier use are more common in children older than age 2, those who vigorously suck their pacifier, and those who use one all of the time.
